Business Object

The Education Advisory Committee (EAC) advises the Education Division at CFA Institute on areas relating to the CFA Program (including specialized pathways), various certificate programs, and other courses and programs as requested. 

The EAC advises on the development of various Bodies of Knowledge (BOKs) for CFA Institute qualifications and provides feedback on various curricula developed and administered by CFA Institute.

Volunteer Impact

The Education Advisory Committee (EAC) is responsible for

  • Advising on the processes for detecting signals of change in investment management and related industries
  • Advising on body of knowledge topics to be reviewed
  • Ensuring the CFA Program and other program curriculum are aligned with Practice
  • The EAC helps to ensure that CFA Institute’s product offering remains relevant to the industry. EAC Members are expected to be actively engaged and contribute to the discussion and decision-making.

Work Location and Time Commitment 

The time commitment is approximately 10 hours per month, which includes document review, meeting preparation, and meeting attendance. EAC members will participate in up to two in-person meetings per year and participate in up to eight virtual meetings per year.

Term

Initial commitment is for one year.  The role is renewable up to 5 times (for a total of 6 years of service) upon mutual agreement between the EAC member and CFA Institute.

Volunteer Roles and Responsibility

An EAC member:

  • In collaboration with the curriculum team, selects topic areas to be reviewed and sets priorities.
  • Conducts reviews of and provides feedback on curriculum structure, learning outcomes (LOS), and curriculum content/examples as requested.
  • Advises on the development of specialized BOKs for existing and proposed programs and on the constitution of relevant panels and sub-committees to conduct this work.
  • Ensures that various curricula are in line with practice, individual program BOKs, and test specifications.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend potential areas of practice for future programs at CFA Institute.
  • Other activities as designated by the CFA Institute staff and Board of Governors.

 Volunteer Experience and Requirements 

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience in investment management industry in a multinational environment
  • Experience in or deep understanding of the topics covered in the CFA Program curriculum
  • Currently working for an:
    • Asset Manager
    • Asset Owner
    • Corporate (e.g. Treasury; Corporate Development; M&A)
    • Private Wealth Manager
  • Proven Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Long/Short Portfolio Management
    • ‘Bottom-up’ Equity Research and Financial Modelling
    • Quantitative/Factor Investing
    • Strategist or ‘In-house’ economist
    • Asset Allocation
    • Sustainable Investing
    • Risk Management
    • Utilizing Data Science and AI in the Investment Process
  • Proven ability to identify and track industry trends
  • Global cultural orientation and working experience required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including a professional and diplomatic demeanor as well as relationship building and management skills
  • Excellent communication skills

Volunteer Certifications

CFA Charterholder and CFA Institute Member in good standing

Conflicts Specific to Role

Members of the EAC are not permitted to engage in the following activities while appointed:

  • Serve on the CFA Institute Board of Governors
  • Serve on the CFA Institute Disciplinary Review Committee
  • Serve on the CFA Institute Council of Examiners
  • Affiliations with CFA or CIPM Program exam preparation courses
  • Affiliations with other Credentialing Organizations
