Job Description: The Accounting, Finance, & Grants Coordinator will support the operations of a portfolio of funding including gifts, grants, and institutional UChicago Development Innovation Lab. This role will report to the Accounting, Finance and Grants Manager. This is a great early career opportunity to gain experience and take on responsibility in finance, accounting, sponsored research, and general operations in a non-profit research environment. 

Title: Accounting, Grants, and Finance Coordinator

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, economics or finance; or minor/concentration in accounting.

Competencies: 

  • Must be able to deal effectively with a diverse workforce in a complex research environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and comfortable with a consultative approach to interacting with employees
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Must be a resourceful problem-solver and critical thinker, be proactive in leveraging opportunities and anticipating and averting problems
  • Must handle all employment information and issues with absolute discretion – confidentiality is essential
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel, advanced Excel skills preferred

Experience: 

  • 1-3 years of experience in accounting, operations, grant administration, finance, or other related field
  • Experience with budget planning and forecasting, ledgers, invoices, and fiscal reporting
  • Experience with financial and accounting systems such as Workday or Oracle/Peoplesoft
  • Working with generally accepted accounting (GAAP)
  • Experience submitting grant proposals to a variety of sponsors 
  • Experience managing post-award activities, especially projects that are funded by multiple sponsors 
  • Experience working in a higher education or non-profit environment
  • Experience in cross-cultural communications and working at an international organization 
  • Project management experience

Preferred competencies: 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal communication and client service skills, both verbal and written.
  • Good planning and organizational skills to balance and prioritize work.

Working Conditions: 

  • Candidates must be willing to travel extensively and flexibly as needed for their respective responsibilities.
  • This person is expected to work a minimum of three days in the office.

Job Description: You are at the heart of Open Capital, directly leading multiple client transactions for Africa’s most innovative businesses and local and global investors. You support clients on strategies as well as transactions, helping to structure new funding vehicles and blended finance approaches. You manage and coach our Transaction Leaders, Analysts and Associates and work closely with Partners and Principals. As an STL, you play an active role in new business development, new global investor relationships, and forming new ideas into innovations (e.g. new funds).

Title: Senior Transaction Leader

  • 8-12 years of experience at an investment bank, private investment firm, development finance institution or in a transaction role within a corporate with significant experience in structuring transactions. Experience in African markets is strongly preferred;
  • Significant  experience preparing and evaluating financial models and investor presentations across a variety of contexts;
  • Strong senior-level project/transaction management skills - ability to manage across multiple simultaneous projects effectively, managing communications with clients and teams;
  • Experience in certain sectors of specific opportunity is preferred, including infrastructure, agriculture, energy access, financial services, healthcare;
  • Experience in managing and coaching teams, including more junior and mid-level professionals;
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills;
  • Professional fluency in English is required; for those based in Dakar, professional fluency in French is also required.
