Jan joined the firm in 1991 and was named to its Executive Management Team in 1998.  In 2010, he was named President and Chief Executive Officer of Van Eck Associates Corporation.   Mr. van Eck has spearheaded the launch of multiple innovative mutual funds, ETFs, and institutional vehicles spanning asset classes and strategies. Mr. van Eck founded the Firm’s ETF business in 2006.   Through a series of business acquisitions, partnerships, and global product development over the last decade, the ETF business is one of the largest globally with offerings domiciled in the U.S., Europe, and Australia.     Mr. van Eck holds a JD from Stanford University and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Williams College with a major in Economics. He is a member of the USC Marshall School of Business Board of Councilors and the Board of Trustees of Williams College. He is a member of the National Committee on United States-China Relations. He routinely appears in the media, including CNBC and Bloomberg Television. Mr. van Eck was a 2013 Finalist for Institutional Investor's Fund Leader of the Year and was the recipient of ETF.com’s 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award.     Professions can only exist within an industry when those acting with transparency, integrity, candor, and trust reach a critical mass. Come join Ken Yee, CFA, CPA, JD as he analyses CFA Institute’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct within the Level I CFA Curriculum as well as provide some test taking tips for the Level I exam. This discussion will follow CFA Institute’s Learning Outcome Statements for 2025 Level I CFA Curriculum Volume 6 Ethical and Professional Standards Modules 1-3: Explain Ethics. Describe the role of a code of ethics in defining a profession. Describe professions and how they establish trust. Describe the need for high ethical standards in investment management. Explain professionalism in investment management. Identify challenges to ethical behavior compare and contrast ethical standards with legal standards. Describe a framework for ethical decision making. Describe the structure of the CFA Institute Professional Conduct Program and the process for the enforcement of the Code and Standards. Identify the six components of the Code of Ethics and the seven Standards of Professional Conduct. Explain the ethical responsibilities required by the Code and Standards, including the sub-sections of each Standard.

Come join Erik Johnsen, CFA, CIPM, CPA as he analyses CFA Institute’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct and its relationship to the Asset Manager Code within the Level III CFA Curriculum.      This discussion will follow CFA Institute’s Learning Outcome Statements for 2025 Level III CFA Curriculum Volume 5, Module 1-4: Describe the structure of the CFA Institute Professional Conduct Program and the disciplinary review process for the enforcement of the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct. Explain the ethical responsibilities required by the Code and Standards, including the sub-sections of each standard. Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct by interpreting the Code and Standards in various situations involving issues of professional integrity. Recommend practices and procedures designed to prevent violations of the Code and Standards. Evaluate practices, policies, and conduct relative to the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct. Explain how the practices, policies, or conduct does or does not violate the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct. Explain the purpose of the Asset Manager Code and the benefits that may accrue to a firm that adopts the Code. Explain the ethical and professional responsibilities required by the six General Principles of Conduct of the Asset Manager Code. Determine whether an asset manager’s practices and procedures are consistent with the Asset Manager Code. Recommend practices and procedures designed to prevent violations of the Asset Manager Code.
